Icons are usually found as ICO files, in a program's installation directory, but they are also found in EXE or DLL files. If you need to organize your icons properly, you can use Icon Viewer. The application is simple and straightforward and you can use it to view icons from individual files or entire folders. Additionally, you may compare icons and locate duplicates.

Icon Viewer works on any Windows platform, from Win 98 to Win 7 and it is freeware. You will spend more time selecting a destination path and making other initial configurations, because the application's files will be installed almost instantly.

The icons list takes up most of the user interface. You may target EXE, DLL, ICO or ICL files or select a folder in order to display their contained icons. Double clicking an icon will reveal its index number. You can use this information to locate the icon instantly, with a search function.

The application is capable of comparing a selected icon with a file of your choice. It is also possible to locate icons that are identical to the selected item. All you have to do is select one of the options located in the Main menu.

Pros

The application allows you to view icons from EXE, DLL and other file types. You can search for icons, compare them or locate duplicates. Icon Viewer can be installed in a few moments and it is free.

Cons

The option for saving icons is not available yet. Icon Viewer gives you the possibility of finding and organizing any icons on your hard drive.
